Daroco Trattoria is a new Italian restaurant in vogue in Paris that opened 2 months ago. Alexandre Giesbert et Julien Ross had the idea of installing their new restaurant in the former Jean-Paul Gauthier boutique on rue Vivienne, in the second arrondissement of Paris.

The bay windows with ironwork, the high ceiling covered with mirrors, the two-story brick walls, the three huge ceiling lights, the marble tables, and the exotic plants summarize the majestic décor. The suspended mezzanine surrounded by the wrought iron railing takes center stage in the main room.

The service is excellent and very friendly. The servers wear navy t-shirts in tribute to Jean-Paul Gauthier.

The young chef Frederico Schiavon, from Sardinia, prepares authentic pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven. The one I ordered was absolutely delicious. The SCHERZO: Tomato base pizza, mozzarella di buffalo, anchovies, n’duja (cured spicy spreadable salami originally of Calabria), black olives from Nice, and basil. The crust was very thin and the result was full of flavor.

The antipasti were very interesting and tasty as well: Octopus melon and ricotta salad and Swordfish carpaccio with a raspberry mix and zucchini.

We ordered the Pecorino wine to start with the antipasti, a mineral Italian white wine, and the Aglianico, made from black grapes grown in the southern regions of Italy, to accompany the pizza.

Danico cocktail is the other side of Daroco. When pizza time is over, it’s cocktail time!
Nico de Soto, the partner at Danico, is a young barman who worked in the Experimental Cocktail Club team in London and NY and is the owner of Mace in NYC. The menu offers a big choice of flavors and alcohols, ranging from €13 to €16.

The place was packed Tuesday for Lunch but at 1:30 pm it was possible to have a table after 15 min waiting time. It’s probably the result of a new place to discover combined with the fact that they are opened in August, while just about everything else is closed in Paris.

Nevertheless, Daroco Trattoria is a great address for excellent pizze and antipasti.
