Kanoyama, a Japanese Michelin-starred restaurant, was our choice to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I wasn’t expecting to go to the restaurant actually; NYC had just opened the indoor space and I wasn’t sure my husband was aware of it.
Tokyo has a tremendous number of restaurants – and yet, you could starve to death walking around searching for one.
What an unexpected and crazy weekend! The wind was blowing with rage last Friday; the trees were falling like dominoes, spewing electrical cables and producing huge damages in Westchester, NY. We were out of power from Friday at 1 pm to Monday at around 5 pm.
Before living in Japan, I used to be impressed by people saying “Oh I do my sushi at home, it’s so easy”! Now that I know more about Japanese culture and cuisine, it makes me smile.
Traditionally, it takes ten years to become a sushi chef. Yes, you heard me, ten years!

Mifune is an izakaya-style Japanese restaurant in Roppongi, but it is also the name of the very famous actor Mifune Toshiro. He is most remembered for his lead roles in legendary director Kurosawa Akira’s movies, such as Seven Samurai (1954) and Rashomon (1950): both black and white classics. I saw the latter and found it very interesting and quite special.
Love love love this restaurant! Kaikaya by the sea is a busy, fun, loud, crazy restaurant in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward with absolutely delicious food!
Nobu Tokyo is part of the Nobu group owned by chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The Nobu group has 32 restaurants in 28 different cities around the world, across five continents.
Wow, this place is just WOW! You’ve probably heard many people saying “This is the best sushi restaurant in Tokyo” and they are right. There are many “best” sushi places in Tokyo and Matsukan is for sure one of them.
