Tomy Gousset, as his name does not quite indicate, is a Cambodian-born French chef and the owner of TOMY & Co. I met my friend Debbie Kobayashi (who has contributed to this blog) for lunch during my last stay in Paris, and she was in charge of finding a place that was simple and yet appropriate for the foodies that we are, and she found an absolute gem!
Oiji was created from a partnership between two Korean-born chefs, Brian Kim and Tae Kyung Ku, who attended the Culinary Institute of America together and worked respectively at Bouley and Gramercy Tavern.

Le bistro de Maëlle et Augustin in the 1st arrondissement was among the first bistros I went to in Paris when we arrived in 2012. I don’t quite remember how we ended up there, but I remember it was after a show. Despite the hour – it was quite late – the restaurant was packed. We were lucky to have a table of four available without reservation. That evening, I recall we had a great dinner and the server was very funny and pleasant. Since then, I have been back several times, and it was always a pleasure.
Assaporare is a little Italian gem in the 12th arrondissement in Paris. The owner could be a sailor with his white pants and a blue navy t-shirt, or just as well the descendant of Louis d’Amboise d’Aubijoux, a seigneur from the 17th century, with the little white goatee and mustache.
Many of you have asked me where to go in Paris for a good Lebanese meal. Of course, there are many choices, and I haven’t tried them all for two reasons: first, there are too many to try, and second, my own Lebanese cuisine has its fans! 😀
Mifune is an izakaya-style Japanese restaurant in Roppongi, but it is also the name of the very famous actor Mifune Toshiro. He is most remembered for his lead roles in legendary director Kurosawa Akira’s movies, such as Seven Samurai (1954) and Rashomon (1950): both black and white classics. I saw the latter and found it very interesting and quite special.
Amazing 66 is the first Chinese restaurant I went to in Chinatown ten years ago. Since then it has become our family Chinese restaurant.
This little restaurant is a very charming spot to enjoy a brunch with the family on Sundays. I have also been there for dinner and I know lunch is available as well. A few blocks from Columbia University, Flat Top is always busy with young and less young people.
Love love love this restaurant! Kaikaya by the sea is a busy, fun, loud, crazy restaurant in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward with absolutely delicious food!
Daroco Trattoria is a new Italian restaurant in vogue in Paris that opened 2 months ago. Alexandre Giesbert et Julien Ross had the idea of installing their new restaurant in the former Jean-Paul Gauthier boutique on rue Vivienne, in the second arrondissement of Paris.
