Strolling through the streets of Paris in the 1st arrondissement, I came across this little pastry boutique on rue Montorgueil. I was captivated by these cute, colorful, little cream puffs displayed in the front of the store.
The frosting on the cream puffs looks like small, fancy hats; each color represents a flavor. Odette offers nine flavors to choose from: chocolate, coffee, praline, caramel with salted butter, berry, lemon, pistachio, green tea, and vanilla.
Frederic Berthy, the pastry chef, wanted to create a new trendy pastry, and he thought about his grandma Odette and her exquisite cream puffs. She used to prepare them in her tiny kitchen for him and his cousins on Wednesdays when they were children.
My daughter and I tried the chocolate and the lemon and they were both very yummy! Exactly what you need for a little snack!
It’s also possible to eat in the shop while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.
Odette sells the cream puffs individually or in boxes of six or twelve, which makes a very nice gift!
