Paris is known for its high number of restaurants: there are so many that you can end up starving going from one restaurant to another, not being able to make up your mind.
Of course, there are all the high-end restaurants, delicious and expensive. But we are not all Rothschilds, are we?
There are also the brasseries, the bistros, the cafés, …the ones I particularly love are the little gastronomic bistros – bistronomie – run by talented chefs that offer fantastic meals at affordable prices.
Les tables d’Augustin is one of them. A tiny bistro in the 17e arrondissement managed by a young chef, Hervé Daniel, and surrounded by a young and dynamic team.
The only thing that could go wrong at Les Tables d’Augustin is if you are seated right next to the restroom. The restaurant is quite small so someone has to sacrifice themselves, but I’d much prefer it to be someone else!
The restaurant can welcome 22 people inside and eight outside. The décor is simple but elegant with a mix of light wood and royal blue color on the walls. A cute frame of Chef Hervé and his son Augustin hangs in the middle of the restaurant. The small kitchen is at the back of the restaurant, and it’s visible from the opening, where the dishes are passed to the servers.
There are two menu choices: a three-course for €39 and a five-course “menu degustation” for €49 – €69 with wine pairing. We chose the €39 one but with regret… although we had a wonderful dinner.
We started with an amuse-bouche – salad of bulgur wheat: cold and refreshing. I really like their crockery; it has a Japanese flavor that goes very well with their cuisine.
For our appetizer, my daughter chose the Octopus Carpaccio served with cream cheese and caviar Oscietra and a shiso vinaigrette. The octopus was very fresh and the combination of all the ingredients was delicious. (there was a supplement of €10 for the caviar but it was worth it).
The chilled peas velouté served with polenta chips and sorbet of mustard for me was excellent! It was a hot day and the freshness of the dish was a delight!
One of the main dishes was the turbot fillet served with green melon and coriander powder and lime.
I ordered the whiting fish served with a puree of fava bean and tempura yellow zucchini. I ordered the pairing wine that they suggest with this dish: the Chateau Grand’Grange, Beaujolais Village Chardonnay.
The sphere of dark chocolate with praliné and banana with hot caramel beurre salé: the chocolate melted under the hot caramel and the rest is a story of a delicious dessert that was swallowed up in no time!
My dessert was a deconstructed cheesecake with apple compote and honey and passion fruit coulis. It was as good as you see it is beautiful!
At Les Tables d’Augustin, the menu is regularly renewed depending on the seasons and market availability. Don’t forget to make a reservation, the restaurant is quite small and the success is big!
