Christophe Michalak is a famous French Master Pâtissier (pastry chef). At the age of 15, he decided to become a pastry chef and obtained his professional certificate at the age of 16. Since then, he has worked in many well-known restaurants and pastries across the world – in London, Brussels, Nice, NY, Kobe, Beverly Hills, and Paris.

He currently works for the three Michelin starred restaurant Plaza Athenée in Paris.

Christophe Michalak is also part of 3 different cooking shows on French television. My favorite one is “Who Will Be the Next Great Pâtissier?” where he is one of the four judges.
Michalak seems to succeed in everything he attempts; he is the author of several cookbooks, and in 2013 he opened a pastry training school in Paris: Michalak Master Class. And on top of it, he is charming, cute, and very pleasant!
A year ago, he opened the Michalak boutique in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. He has two others in Saint-Germain-des-près (6th) and rue Poissoniere (2nd).
The store reflects his personality: simple yet very refined and fun. Every single item has been thoughtfully and meticulously created. The décor is all white, yet it seems very colorful due to the pastries’ bright colors.

Everything has been dismantled, revisited, and recreated. Nothing in this store looks like any other pastries. The cakes, the tarts, the individual portions, the ice cream, the chocolate, and even the juices are presented in a fabulous way.

I tried the Paris-Brest ice cream, it was absolutely delicious! All the flavors were balanced to perfection. Just so you know, the individual portion is more suited for two or even three people, unless you are a cheeky gourmand!

I also tasted what they call the Kosmik, or revisited cakes. They are sold as individual portions in a jar. The presentation is so attractive and unique. A spoon is part of the presentation, so for the eager, no need to go home to start eating, you can savor right away.

I tried two of them; the Yuzu tart with lime and meringue and the Fraisier. Both were sensational; an amazing journey for the taste buds. The portions are huge, which explains the €7.50 price tag, but here again, the individual portion is more for two people.

Michalak is a great address to keep in mind. I would love to have a Michalak store opening in Manhattan, NY!
