It sometimes takes a song to make a cocktail famous.
Maybe the lyrics of the song Escape (The Piña Colada Song) sound familiar to you?
“If you like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain
If you’re not into yoga, if you have half a brain
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape
I’m the love that you’ve looked for, write to me, and escape”
Not the best song, I admit, but it was a hit in the late ‘70s.
The Piña Colada cocktail was already Puerto Rico’s official drink, but it’s Rupert Holmes who in 1979 with his song made it renowned worldwide.
This tropical cocktail is easy to make, refreshing, and delicious when you have the right proportions.
Prep time: 10 min
Serving: one glass
Ingredients:
3 ½ oz / 105 ml pineapple juice
2 oz / 60 ml white rum – reduce to 1 oz / 30 ml if you prefer lighter.
1 ½ oz / 45 ml coconut cream – It’s important to use the sweet kind, otherwise, you have to add one or two teaspoons of sugar according to your taste.
¼ oz / 7 ml fresh lime juice
1 cup / glass ice
Garnish: Pineapple wedge
Combine pineapple juice, rum, coconut cream, lime juice, and ice. Blend until all ingredients combine and make a smooth and creamy beverage.
Pour in a frozen cocktail glass and garnish with the pineapple wedge.
Sit down, relax, and enjoy the moment!
