I was planning on posting on Monday about this great restaurant, but my heart was too sad after Friday’s terrorist attacks. We were all in shock after what happened in several Parisians’ neighborhoods. We are all safe, but it’s unfortunately not the case for other families. My thoughts are with them.
However, today I’ve decided to post my blog because what makes Paris the city so many people want to visit or live in is the outstanding number of restaurants, theaters, concerts… Paris is the city of lights, culture, and fun. We have to keep it that way and NO ONE can ever change it.
Restaurant Cap is an upscale bistro with moderate prices in the 17e arrondissement. Chef Konrad Neething with more than 15 year’s experience in fine cuisine comes from, guess where…Cape town, South Africa!
With Chef Konrad in the kitchen and his sweet wife in the main room, the two make this place very pleasant and enjoyable. The gastronomic menu offers 5 appetizers and 5 entrees to choose from. It doesn’t seem like a lot but the variety and the originality of the dishes make the choices very interesting.
The décor is simple and elegant with tones of white and beige. During the day, the restaurant is very bright due to the big bay windows.
It is mostly based on French cuisine but has a few South African inspiration on the menu. The South African Biltong risotto is absolutely exquisite.
The egg Bio and the salmon “2 façons” were both delicious. I didn’t try the other dishes but they sound very promising.
As for the entrée, I had the Sea bass with langoustine and gnocchi. I’m not a big fan of Gnocchi; I usually find them very dry and dense, but these ones were just perfect. The fish was very well cooked and just melted in your mouth.
The pork dish was very juicy and tender. The side dish, patatas Bravas, was very tasty and creative. The duck was perfectly cooked.
4 choices of dessert, each very different; there is something for all tastes: white chocolate mousse for chocolate lovers, crumble for the fruity, restyled lemon pie, and cheesecake for the caramel trend.
To accompany all these fantastic meals you have a very good selection of wines by the glass. You can definitely find the South African touch in the wine cellar.
Without any pretension, Chef Konrad gave to Restaurant Cap a cozy atmosphere with excellent meals.
