If we could all eat at our mom’s as we eat at Comme Chez Maman (like my mom’s), the world would be a wonderful place!

Coming from a small town near Anvers, Belgium, Wim is a young chef who built his experience working with Michelin-starred chefs such as Antoine Westermann, Alain Ducasse, and Joel Robuchon. From them, Wim acquired the technical skill, the discipline, and the culinary know-how with passion and mastery. He traveled to Tokyo, Hong Kong, and New York, where he learned the use of spices, before opening his restaurant in the 17th arrondissement: the Comme chez maman.

With a bistro atmosphere, the menu offers traditional dishes but with an innovative twist. The presentation is very well-groomed and the portions are generous. The combination of dark wood, black leather, red curtains, and brick walls produce a very cozy and warm ambiance. The welcome is very pleasant and the service is great from beginning to end.

Reviewing the menu in order to remember what we ordered is making my mouth water! I’m already thinking of what I can order next time.

The three appetizers we ordered were all delicious. I ordered the mussels dish. It was not served in a sauce but the mussels were nevertheless very juicy.

The Vegetable soup with horseradish and smoked salmon was surprising and very tasty as well as the crab ravioli lying on a soy-flavored cabbage bed.
For the main course, one of my friends ordered the veal blanquette with vanilla and lemongrass. It was delicious and very well presented in a red casserole.

The pot-au-feu from the sea was delicious as well. It wasn’t my dish, but as your blogger, I have the privilege to taste all the dishes!

Mine was the fish of the day: ray. I love ray fish when it’s cooked well and Wim didn’t disappoint me. The sauce with the capers that accompanied the ray was absolutely exquisite.

The Parmesan crusted chicken with artichoke and asparagus was also a big success.
The wine menu offers few choices but great quality and reasonable prices! Wim favors small producers working according to traditional methods. The Petit Chablis, Domaine Vrignaud, 2014 Bourgogne, was a very good choice.

To end the lovely evening, we chose the mango and pineapple dessert served in a passion fruit sauce with white pepper and the tarte Tatin to end this exquisite evening. Two dishes and six spoons to share!

For lunch, the menu of the day is 20€ for a 3-course meal, which is a great deal. Dinner is a bit pricier, 50€ per person on average.
I heard about the Comme Chez Maman from the cheesemonger Philippe Alléosse I interviewed for my previous blog. He was full of praise towards Wim and he was absolutely right!
