There was a scene in the movie Sex and the City where Charlotte says: “I read in the newspaper that Brooklyn is the new Manhattan”. Miranda, who was living in Brooklyn, answered: “Whoever wrote that article lives in Brooklyn”!

I have to say the newspaper was not so wrong; Brooklyn is changing a lot. There are many new buildings with hip new places to eat and drink. I went to Cow & Clover in Williamsburg for brunch on a Sunday morning.

Located in what is still partially an industrial area of Williamsburg, Cow & Clover – very hip and casual – reflects Brooklyn’s trend. The concrete floor gives a factory look to the room yet the décor overall is very welcoming. Tables and shelves are made of solid oak wood like those found on a farm. The chairs are metal, as are the table legs and the shelving. The napkins are rolled dishcloths; you feel as if you are eating in your kitchen. The huge bar with the 2 brick ovens adds to the old-fashioned yet authentic look.

The brunch menu offers a variety of egg-based dishes. The muffins came on a wood plank, reflecting a farm–like style. They were well presented but tasted a bit bland, unfortunately.
The smocked duck eggs Benedict was very tasty; it was served with spicy fried potatoes.

The Berkshire pork and potato hash with sunny-side-up eggs, served with pickled peppers & red onions was my choice. It was quite spicy and the red chili pepper was a bit hot, but I love spicy food. The presentation was very nice and matched the overall appearance of the restaurant; a big wood board with an iron fry pan on top, very rustic flair.

The caramelized apple stuffed brioche French toast was to die for! It was delicious and the apple inside gave a succulent taste to the preparation. The portion is quite big, a dish like that fills you up for the entire day! Be aware!

I heard Cow & Clover’s Mimosas are very good and they are quite generous with refills, but I didn’t order one. Next time for sure, I’ll try it for you!
